Rising Stars is for kids ages 6-12 who have an interest in improv and music. Developing a show develops a lot of skills. Children will not only learn about improv and music but they will learn how to work with others, how to work to improve something, and public speaking skills. They will share a unique experience with new friends over the fourteen weeks as well.
Kids will learn improv skills and learn about music. It is an introduction to musical theater as the class involves creating and performing a musical through improvisation.
Students create characters and dialogue which becomes scripted and scored by professional Second City writers and musical directors. The students are given a simple outline of a story, something along the line of a familiar child’s tale like “The Little Red Hen”. Then over the next fourteen weeks they develop an original musical through improvisation based on that outline. They will work with a Musical Director to write songs and work with a director to turn their improvised scenes into a full story.
It meets for one hour and twenty minutes once a week for fourteen weeks. Students must be available for the performance on the final day of class in a Second City Training Center theater.
