Spotlight at the Second City is a new series from Taylor Hreljac & Gabe Meacher that celebrates sketch comedy’s best troupes. Each month, The Second City will open its doors to the next generation of sketch by putting the spotlight on two of our favourite sketch troupes. Audiences will get to enjoy a double-header sketch show: two acts, one amazing night of fresh comedy.
January’s show features 24 DOUBLE B and CHEAP WINE!
Hosted by Taylor Hreljac & Gabe Meacher
24 DOUBLE B
24 Double B? Let’s just say these two gen Z teenagers took the world by storm with their unpredictably predictable improv, then didn’t did it again with their sketch. Don’t believe us? Neither do we. These two millennials won Sketchiest Sketch troupe at the 2024 Toronto Sketch Festival with their off kilter but respectful style of sketch. This show marks their triumphant return to where the two met 7 years ago in a similar but not exactly the same Second City building. With an all new show with a lot of the same disrespectful themes the two (siblings) are excited to discover what this show is for them and you! Sit back and enjoy 24 Double B presents: a second try at a Conservatory Grad show.
CHEAP WINE
Cheap Wine has been described as: “the perfect blend of deadpan and whackadoodle”, “successfully unique”, “joyfully absurdist”, “raunchy and fun”, “so fully alienating that I dissociated”. Cheap Wine is family. For real. As in, two of them have the same parents and two of them have a marriage certificate. That’s fun and wholesome, but also kind of weird. This is their first time on the Second City stage and they’re so jazzed. They won the Audience Choice Award for the 2025 Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, but this is an all new show so we’ll see what happens!

In Worlds Collide, your favourite characters get smashed together an explosive, unpredictable show. Eight of Toronto’s funniest comedians play characters from fiction, history, pop culture and any other weirdly specific niche they can find. After meeting them, YOU, the audience decide on which characters you want to see do a hilarious improv scene together. Maybe Linda Belcher will be in a pitch meeting with Walt Disney. Maybe Rocky will be roommates with a Muppet. Any pairing can happen, as long as the audience decides it wants to see those Worlds Collide!
Worlds Collide is hosted by Maddox Campbell and produced by Kicks and Giggles Entertainment, the same people behind shows that have been making people laugh for years like Perfect Match, The Know Show, and The Resistance: Improvised. Magic Guys at Work: Mayhem, Mischief and Miracles
📅 Tuesday, January 20 | ⏰ 7:30 PM
The Magic Guys at Work are back with another high-energy night of comedy, magic, and mind-bending surprises — and this time, all bets are off.
Hosted by Magic Ian and Rob Fishbaum, this edition welcomes special guest Chris Mayhew, a professional magician and mischief maker known for his wildly creative approach, fearless improvisation, and beautifully chaotic style of magic. Chris doesn’t just perform tricks — he unleashes them. Expect bold ideas, unexpected turns, and moments where anything can (and probably will) happen.
Together, the trio delivers an evening packed with laugh-out-loud comedy, jaw-dropping magic, and interactive moments that blur the line between clever deception and outright mischief. No two Magic Guys at Work shows are ever the same, but this one promises an extra dose of unpredictability as creativity, chaos, and miracles collide on stage.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering the show for the first time, Mayhem, Mischief and Miracles is a night designed to surprise, delight, and leave you wondering how it all went so wrong — in the best possible way.
One night. Three magicians. Unlimited mayhem.

“Virtual Reality” is Alaa Abu Diab’s newest special: a comedic, brutally honest dive into the world we think we’re living in, versus the world that’s happening while we’re too busy refreshing our notifications.
With his signature storytelling and political humour, Alaa drags us, lovingly, between two realities: the one we laugh at, and the one we avoid
In this special, Alaa exposes the glitches in our daily lives, the lies we tell ourselves, and the ridiculous ways we escape reality, one screen at a time.
It’s sharp. It’s real. It’s painfully funny.
And it leaves you wondering: Are we actually living, or just buffering?
About Alaa
Alaa Abu Diab is a comedian and cultural mirror who turns discomfort, contradiction, and displacement into comedy. He doesn’t perform as a persona; he performs as himself. His humour is not crafted from punchlines; it is crafted from truth.
Comedy is his language of survival and connection
Alaa didn’t choose comedy; it chose him.
Growing up, humour was his way to make friends, integrate, and feel safe. Later, when he moved to a new country and felt isolated, he reached for the only tool he had ever trusted: comedy.
A single Facebook video became the bridge he built back to belonging.
Comedy is how he makes people listen.
It’s how he processes things bigger than him. It’s how he stays human in a world that often feels too heavy at times.
