Spotlight at the Second City is a new series from Taylor Hreljac & Gabe Meacher that celebrates sketch comedy’s best troupes. Each month, The Second City will open its doors to the next generation of sketch by putting the spotlight on two of our favourite sketch troupes. Audiences will get to enjoy a double-header sketch show: two acts, one amazing night of fresh comedy.
February’s show features LEGALLY BROWN and EMILY JEFFERS!
Hosted by Taylor Hreljac & Gabe Meacher
LEGALLY BROWN
Legally Brown is a Toronto-based sketch troupe featuring Saba Akhtar, Yazmin Butcher, Jacqueline Ashton, and Kirthiga Rajanayagam. Born from the shared experiences of being “that diversity hire” and wanting to flip the script, Legally Brown is here to take the stage as the main character. What started as a writing circle (and often became group therapy), evolved into a collective rooted in laughter. In their debut year, Legally Brown performed at Comedy Bar, The Annex Hotel, Nia Centre for the Arts, and in TOSketchFest ‘25 to a sold out show! Now in their Second City Toronto debut, Legally Brown is proud to present “The Token Ones”; a show about reclaiming spaces and subverting the token narratives. In their signature style of infusing pop culture and their cultures, Legally Brown will have you L-ing your MF-ing A’s Off!

EMILY JEFFERS
Ring the bell in the old tower! The Mathemagician has made a new discovery! Written and performed by Emily Jeffers, The Mathemagician is a ridiculous character comedy show that can be enjoyed by scholars and simpletons alike—no math skills required! Neither a magician nor a mathematician, Emily is a Toronto-based actor and comedian known for characters like Bitty-Bat and Sheonardo DiCaprio and for producing the shows Tight Five and Sketch Party. She has developed her aptitude for physical comedy and absurd characters through institutions like L’École Philippe Gaulier (France), Spymonkey Theatre (UK), the Idiot Workshop (Los Angeles), Second City, Bad Dog Theatre, and Sweet Action Theatre. She performs clown, improv and sketch around the city, most recently as co-creator and performer in the holiday sketch show, Have Yourself a Menty Little Breakdown, directed by Rob Baker. Aside from performing live at Edinburgh Fringe, Toronto Fringe, Toronto Sketchfest, Montreal Sketchfest, and the Montreal Clown Festival, Emily has also appeared in commercials, short films and on TV. She is represented by Maggie Dunlop at Oldfield Management.
