Spotlight at The Second City is a monthly series from Taylor Hreljac & Gabe Meacher celebrating the best in Toronto sketch comedy and the next generation of comedic voices.
September’s show features BRAIN FROGS and MIDNIGHT SNACKS.
BRAIN FROGS
Compared to I Think You Should Leave (by 2 to 4 close friends at their show one time), Brain Frogs are an alternative Canadian force that have come together from three different walks of comedy and parts of the country. Combining Hull, Quebec’s Pov Minhas (Toronto Herald), Kelowna, BC’s Maddy Atamanchuk (Bad Dog Featured Players) and Leaside, T.O.’s Jim Temple (Hubcap Comedy Festival), Brain frogs have been performing with each other since 2022 and have been featured at Toronto Sketchfest, Montreal Sketchfest and Sketch To The Death. Made up of vastly different people (woman, ginger, and brown) and personalities (desperate, stoned, and reluctant bro), the three Brain Frogs are constantly exploring how they get along and why it just works. When they get together, it’s all laughs, HAHAHA! Every time they’re on stage, Brain Frogs force the audience to laugh at their dynamic and feel as awkward as they do.
MIDNIGHT SNACKS
The Midnight Snacks are a Toronto based sketch comedy ensemble fuelled by silliness, whimsy, and the kind of laughs that you share with your best pals. What started as a group of comedic hopefuls has grown into a tight-knit powerhouse of performers who have sharpened their talents across sketch, writing, stand-up, television, film, and improv stages. After a sold out, four week run of their debut show ‘51st State of Mind’ and another sold out presentation of their new show, ‘Shtickin’ Together’ at the 2026 Toronto Sketch Fest, the Midnight Snacks are back with well, their greatest hits featuring a stripped down version of themselves.. clothing not optional. Please wear clothing.
