ROBERT BENEDETTI (Chicago 1961-62). After his stint at the Second City Benedetti taught acting for over sixty years at various universities and was Chairman of the Acting Program at the Yale Drama School and Dean of Theatre at the California Institute of the Arts. He has directed at many theatres, including the Guthrie, the Melbourne, Milwaukee, and San Diego Repertory Theatres, and the Oregon, Colorado, and Great Lakes Shakespeare festivals. In 2011 he was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Theatre at the Kennedy Center. In the film/TV world, he was for five years president of Ted Danson’s Anasazi productions at Paramount Studios. As a screenwriter/producer, he has won three Emmys, two Humanitas Prizes, and a Peabody Award. In 1997 he was named Producer of the Year by the Producers Guild of America. His most memorable films are HBO’s Miss Evers’ Boys and A Lesson Before Dying. Between them, these two films received 17 Emmy nominations and won 8. Both won the Best Movie and Best Script Emmys. He has written six books on acting and film, including The Actor at Work which has been translated into Danish and Chinese and has been in print for 64 years. He now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico where in 2012 he founded The New Mexico Actors Lab Theatre with which he has directed 25 shows.
