Taught by Second City Music Director, Jerome Kurtenbach, this four-week course is a fun and fast-paced, deep dive into writing, conceptualizing, and recording your own music video. Students will work together as a writers’ room to generate a song idea, write a group number, and then record their video.
Students will leave the course having been introduced to the following skills:
- How to pitch an online digital music video from idea to completion.
- How to craft and build a lyric to be made into a song.
- How to record vocals via Zoom in a virtual recording session.
- How to use the online medium to capture visuals in a compelling way Class Details & Final Video:
This class will meet for 4 weeks, on Mondays September 8 – 29th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Central Time.
There will be a final showcase where participants will see the final, edited video and get to celebrate and ask any final questions about the editing process on October 13th at 6:00 PM Central Time.
Recommended Materials:
COMPUTER: A desktop or laptop computer. No phones, Chromebooks or tablets.
INTERNET: Students will need the fastest possible internet connection, preferably with at least 25 Mbps as a standard.
CAMERA: Built-in cameras for those recording on computer. For those recording outside the Zoom ecosystem, the highest quality phone is preferable (using the highest video settings – “cinematic” on some iPhones), unless a digital film camera is already in their possession.
MICROPHONE: Built-in microphones, headsets with microphones, external microphones are all acceptable when recording on Zoom. For those recording outside the Zoom ecosystem, the highest quality external microphone is preferable.
COSTUME(S): Personal wardrobes/attire will suffice when creating videos, however, costumes for ALL videos are encouraged.
Prerequisite: Students need to have completed the Improv, Music Improv, or Writing Program or have the equivalent experience at another institution. Students with TV & Film experience are also welcome to apply for permission from the instructor.
