Acting Lab: Scene Study Accelerated

After completing Intro to Acting, students can continue developing their craft in any of our Acting Labs, including this one! In Acting Lab: Scene Study Accelerated you’ll apply the skills learned in Intro to Acting -analyzing text, making strong character choices, and finding authentic emotional resonance with the material – through the performance of scenes drawn from a variety of sources, including The Second City archives.

For over 60 years, The Second City has been archiving scripts and video from all of its resident stage revues. In the first half of this class, students will workshop and perform assigned scenes and monologues from this collection. In the second half, the focus expands to include other scripted material from TV, film, and theatre. The process is student-driven: selecting scenes from the Archives/Scene Databases, performing a cold read, receiving notes, workshopping, and re-performing the material. Actors will be expected to memorize scripts at this level. The class culminates in a 40-minute showcase featuring scene studies and material from The Second City Archives.

Prerequisite: Intro to Acting

This accelerated version of the class covers the entire curriculum in 4 weeks, with 7 classes falling on Saturdays & Sundays.
