Have you ever wondered what a sketch/improv director actually does? Do you watch other coaches and directors and have a suspicion that directing is something you could be really good at? This intensive will dive into the art and science of sketch directing, exploring many aspects of the role, from casting to opening night. Learn about running order, generating original comedic material, working with actors and designers, and more in an effort to unpack the tools and mindset of directing.
This is a highly participatory intensive with directors having the opportunity to work with performers and meet with directors, artists, and leaders around the organization.
2026 Dates & Workload:
This intensive will run August 17 – 21 with class meeting from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Central Time with opportunities to see shows in the evening
There will be some work outside of class each day.
Prerequisite: Application approval from Artistic Directors
