Jonathan Wagner


Jon is an award-winning actor and musician based in Chicago. For the past 15 years he has been working at The Second City, composing, designing and teaching. Jon has music directed for Second City with Norwegian Cruise Lines, SC Theatricals and two of their National Touring companies. He teaches every level of Music Improv at the SC Training Center and served over four years as Music Director of the Severn Darden Graduate Program. Locally, he also plays with ComedySportz Chicago, Baby Wants Candy, Brouhaha and VAMP, along with many more.

As a composer, Jon has collaborated on several musicals. In addition to dozens of revues at the SCTC, he composed/co-composed, Writing our World (Goodman, Nat’l Tour), Jungle Tales (Apple Tree), The Dreamer and the Devil and Any Someone at All (Porchlight Theatre’s Off the Porch series).

As an actor, Jon has performed all over the country. Favorite roles include Barfee in 25th Annual…Spelling Bee (TATC), Jaime in The Last 5 Years (Steel Beam), Mercutio/Apothecary in The People vs. Friar Laurence (Boarshead/SC Theat.) and Dewey Finn in the Original Broadway Company of School of Rock: the Musical. He was the original alternate for Tony-nominee Alex Brightman, and performed the role over fifty times.

He is a graduate of Northwestern University and member of Actor’s Equity.
