The Second City Acting Program combines improvisational techniques with a variety of scripted media—including materials from the Second City archive—to help students build the foundations of grounded and compelling acting. Second City’s approach to sketch comedy is deeply rooted in behavior, relationships, character, and emotion.
Over the years, our alumni have applied these principles across stage, film, and television to create performances that are not only hilarious but also heartwarming, dramatic, and award-winning. In this course, students will explore core acting techniques and methods for working with scripts.
It’s a great fit for improvisers looking to refine their acting skills or for actors with little to no improv experience who want to stretch their creative muscles and expand their toolbox.
Prerequisites: While some prior improv training is recommended, it is not required.
