Looking to fast-track your entry into the Improv Program? Advanced Placement Weekend is a condensed, intensive version of our placement class, designed for experienced improvisers who want to brush up on fundamentals and align with Second City’s ensemble-focused training style.

Over two focused days, you’ll reconnect with Viola Spolin’s foundational principles—like ensemble, object work, who/what/where, and sidecoaching—and build a shared vocabulary that supports success at higher levels of training. The weekend concludes with an assessment to help determine your ideal placement within the Improv Program.

This is not a beginner class. Students without prior improv experience should begin with Improv 1.

By the end of the weekend, students will:

  • Refresh and apply core Spolin-based concepts
  • Practice exercises and language unique to The Second City’s style
  • Receive individual feedback and placement guidance

Prerequisites: Prior improv experience (training or performance)

Who it’s for: Experienced improvisers new to The Second City, returning students looking
