Class Overview
This scene-focused lab is an excellent follow-up (or companion!) to Acting Lab: Character & Monologue and a natural next step for students looking to deepen their acting craft. You’ll work with a range of scripted material – from the Second City archives to scenes from contemporary film, TV, and theatre – using text analysis, physical and vocal technique, and emotional connection to bring characters to life.
Each week, you’ll rehearse scenes in and outside of class, receive individualized feedback, and explore performance through a variety of lenses. In addition to script work, you’ll be introduced to several approaches to acting, including Practical Aesthetics, Stanislavski, Meisner, and improvisation-informed scene study. These tools help you break down text, clarify objectives, and play truthfully in relationship with your scene partners.
Class culminates in a live showcase featuring scene work developed throughout the term.Prerequisite: Intro to ActingNO class September 1st or October 13th
