The Second City has been bringing the funny for over 60 years.


We began in 1959 as a small comedy cabaret and have grown to become the first name in improv and comedy, with theaters and Training Centers in Chicago, Toronto, and Hollywood. We’ve expanded our reach to include creative collaborations with a wide range of creative and corporate partners, wellness and education programs, and TV, film and digital productions. And our alumni list includes some of the funniest names on the planet…


The HR and people ops team supports every aspect of The Second City. We care about and for our people and do so by providing best-in-class customer service. We are experienced, taking what we do quite seriously, but never taking ourselves too seriously. The HR team works holistically with all areas of the business, helping great professionals to do extraordinary things.




This human resources role assists with and has responsibilities in the following functional areas: document compliance, benefits and leave administration, employee relations, payroll review, policies and procedures, background checks and employment verifications, onboarding, recruiting, DEI initiatives, employee recognition programs, morale, and holiday events, occupational health and safety, and training and development.



An excellent communicator; clear, concise, responsive, and kind

Basic knowledge of HR core functions

Relationship management

Working knowledge of payroll and HRIS systems

Funny (Just kidding; everyone knows HR isn’t funny…)


This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.


Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment inside a sensational creative environment. Periodic WFH is fine.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be desired, as seeing our shows is a perk!



No travel is expected for this position.


Required Experience

Three years + would be terrific.
