About the Position:

The Second City is seeking an executive producer (EP) responsible for achieving Second City’s mission to develop, produce, and present socially conscious, thought-provoking comedic work that fully engages audiences. This individual will also be responsible for establishing and fulfilling the artistic vision of the company, as well as representing and promoting the company to external constituents at all levels. The EP will join the executive leadership team (CFO, COO, and other key leaders) to foster Second City’s success. Integral to the role will be ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion policies and practices are integrated into casting, scripts, audience development, and external partnerships. The executive producer (EP) reports to the president and shareholders.

Essential Responsibilities:

Artistic & Production

  • Participate in selecting and supervising creative projects and programming
  • Oversee curriculum and educational projects
  • Support outside creatives who work on Second City projects
  • Supervise and lead a creative department and project delivery team
  • Represent the company in the media and at industry events
  • Scout for new productions, projects, and talent

Operations and Talent Management

  • Develop annual operating budget in cooperation with the COO and CFO
  • Help with the negotiation of contracts
  • Implement and support Second City policies to foster an equitable, accountable, and welcoming environment
  • Conduct performance reviews and initiate corrective conversations and actions for the team
  • Cultivate a working environment that promotes the development and retention of the highest quality advisory board, staff, and artistic talent
  • Marketing & Consensus Organizing/External Development
  • Support the client success team in the company’s cultivation of individual, government (e.g. the Kennedy Center), foundation, and corporate partnerships; participate in grant and report writing; maintain strong artistic relationships with external partners
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships through public and grassroots appearances to promote the company
  • Work with the creative arts team and staff to develop visual identities for productions and marketing

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience leading theatrical production teams; minimum of 4-6 years running a theater, live entertainment production company, or equivalent experience
  • Strong record of progressive theater experience and achievement
  • Proven track record of developing new artistic works
  • Maintain a network of industry performers and other artists, particularly those that are traditionally under-resourced and underrepresented
  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership, problem solving, analytic, and communication skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current media market trends
  • Demonstrable record of large-scale project management, including teams of at least 10 individuals, including direct report FTE equivalents in combination with contracted resources
  • Possesses excellent time management and multi-tasking skills

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational attainment
  • 5-10 years progressive managerial experience in organizations of comparable size
  • Experience managing an education business rooted in entertainment
  • Strong ensemble/collaboration skills
  • Demonstrable portfolio of successfully completed creative projects
