In the Kids Improv Program you’ll study the fundamentals of improvisation through exercises that help to develop strong ensemble and character work. Develop stage presence as well as patience, self confidence, good communication skills, and a respect for other performers and their creativity.
Kids and teens can explore their creative energy in our Improv and Comedy Writing Camps by spending part of their summer at The Second City! Our summer programs attract students from all over the world who want to gain new skills, meet new friends, and enjoy Chicago in the summer.
Campers 6-18 are grouped by age.
Learn the basic skills of acting. Students will discover skills found in the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual aspects of the human condition. Exercises include movement, sense memory, personalization, objective, beat work and beginning text analysis. Learn about auditioning, as well as working in the business.
(Ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-13)
Discover and express your unique comedic voice and develop your personal style as a stand-up comedian. We will focus on generating original material, building stage presence and celebrating your take on the world. This class culminates with a performance on The Second City Brick Box stage. 2 hours, 7 weeks
Improv for Anxiety for Teens is an innovative class that combines ensemble-based improv with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help teens overcome the fear and avoidance associated with social anxiety.
A Second City instructor will lead the 1-hour class.
