Teen comedies rock! Especially ones adapted from well-known and unknown classic tales in the free Public Domain. Whether it's Sydney White (Snow White adaptation), 10 Things I Hate About You (The Taming of the Shrew adaptation) or Clueless (Emma adaptation), there's a tale out there for you to modernize into a short comedic film or television pilot for your generation. In six weeks, classes will focus on pitching ideas, receiving feedback, identifying the fundamentals of narrative storytelling, brainstorming modern adaptation options, and defining the writing steps that lead to a completed first draft -- all while finding the right chord for a teen audience.
Students must have access to Internet, Final Draft (or free Writer Duet screenwriting software), and a webcam.
