In this online course, students will write, produce, and record original content meant to be listened to in podcast format. Using free audio editing software Audacity, students will learn about and experiment with a variety of different styles of pieces and podcast formats. There are writing assignments as well as recording assignments in this class.
Students should expect to spend 3-4 hours per week reading the lectures, completing the assignments, and responding to their classmate’s work. Through discussions and instructor feedback, at the end of the course students will have gained technical skills, explored different podcast styles, outlined a template for their podcast, and recorded and edited an episode.
Students may record with additional people each week, although only one person per registration will have access to the course.
Format of Assignments: Audio and word files, uploaded directly to Blackboard.
Technical Requirements: Students can create audio files on their phones or computers. No microphones or special equipment required for this course. A computer and the free program Audacity are required to edit.
Commitment: ~ 4 hours (including listening to 2 hour-long podcasts per week).
