Improv with The Second City is held in partnership with The Chicago Children’s Theater and takes place at The Station, 100 S Racine.
This class is kids ages 5-8 who want an introduction to improvisation and learning to play with others in a structured setting. This class uses some of the tenets of improv like creating a supportive environment and the concept of “Yes, and” to teach kids some basic skills. This isn’t about laying the foundation for kids to be comedians or improvisers; it’s about getting them on their feet and presenting them with a new way to learn how to work with others.
This class teaches the building blocks of basic improv. The games and exercises are mostly guided play that develops social skills and confidence. The focus here is put on physical expression rather than verbal. The kids will learn how to work and have fun together with others.
The kids will participate in fun games and exercises that will have them do such things as riding a “magic elevator” or being an exhibit in a museum. These are all designed to be fun with no pressure to perform placed upon the children.
