The Second City is proud to announce our 6th annual Bob Curry Fellowship with generous support from NBC. This ten-week master program offers up to 16 fellowships to qualifying actors and improvisers from diverse multicultural backgrounds to train and study at The Second City Chicago. Taught by Second City’s top professional instructors and directors, this rigorous fellowship is designed for serious minded talent seeking a career in sketch comedy. The highly competitive program is tuition-free and awarded to exceptional talent selected by audition and adjudicated by Second City directors and producers. The program’s culminating showcase is presented to industry execs, NBC casting and Second City producers and directors.
Since the inaugural launch in 2014, over 50% of the graduating fellows have been hired by various Second City divisions, including The Second City Touring Company, Resident Stage Ensembles, Theatricals, and as teachers for The Second City Training Center.
The Bob Curry Fellowship is highly committed to increasing access, visibility and training development to underrepresented voices in respect to race/ethnicity, gender, ability and sexual orientation by awarding a gratis master program of study without any financial burden to talent.
Talent must audition to be accepted into the Bob Curry Fellowship program. To be eligible, talent should be a graduate of a Conservatory-level improv program e.g., Second City, iO theatre, Annoyance theatre, UCB, etc. Professional actors with a degree in theatre with extensive stage experience on resume with some improv training from college or institution are eligible to apply. Stand-up comedic performers are also highly encouraged to apply and should participate in improv audition workshop offered during the “Diversity Weekend.” Headshots and resumes will be reviewed for audition consideration and scheduled appointments on a first-come basis.
Chicago submissions will reopen December 2019.
About the Audition
The audition consists of 20 minutes of improvisation within a group of eight plus a personal choice of a one-minute comedic monologue or stand-up piece.
