Summer Camps

Spend your summer at The Second City, where you can exercise your creative energies in our improvisation and comedy writing camps! Campers play fun improv games to help access creativity, boost self-confidence and develop spontaneity and playfulness. There is a showcase at the end of every camp, parents will be notified of exact time and studio on the first day of camp.

Camps are taught by talented and experienced Second City instructors/actors and alumni.

TUITION
1-WEEK CAMP (Monday-Friday 9am-4pm) - $420.00+HST / $400+HST Early Registered 
1-WEEK HALF-DAY CAMP (Monday-Friday 12-4pm) - $240.00+HST / $220+HST Early Registered

All Camps are full-days unless otherwise noted. Early registration ends March 31.
**HOLIDAYS: July 1 and August 3 are holidays. There will be no camp held on these days. If you register for a camp during one of these weeks your camp tuition will be prorated accordingly.**

AFTER CAMP CARE Is available Monday-Thursday until 5pm. An additional charge of $12 per day per child will be incurred. Please notify The Training Centre in advance if After Camp Care is required.

SIBLING DISCOUNTS are available if registered for the SAME WEEK of camp! Please register directly with the office for this discount (no online registrations).

Remember to hold onto all Summer Camp receipts. You may be eligible for a Children's Arts Tax Credit. We charge $15 to re-issue receipts at tax time. If you do not receive your receipt 24 hours after registration, please contact The Training Centre Office at 416.340.7270.


Grades 2-4

Improv Games June 29-July 3July 13-17July 27-31August 10-14June 29-July 3

Think on your feet, be spontaneous and be a team player! Campers play fun improv games (like Whose Line is it Anyway?) to help access creativity, boost self-confidence and develop spontaneity and playfulness. At the end of the week, campers show their friends and family what they've learned in their very own showcase.

Beginner - no experience is needed for these camps, have a little or a lot of improv experience you'll have a blast either way!

Adventuretown July 6-10July 20-24August 4-7August 17-21August 31-September 4

Every town has some eccentric characters, and every day is an adventure. Bring these eccentric characters to life and create the adventure together. Play fun improv games, play as an ensemble and build a story on your feet!

Beginner - no experience is needed for these camps, have a little or a lot of improv experience you'll have a blast either way!


Grades 5-8

Characterprov July 13-17July 20-24August 10-14August 17-21 August 31-September 4

Learn how to create large characters like on SCTV, Saturday Night Live and Funny or Die! Campers will explore physicality in silent scenes and play around with different devices for character creation. Campers will have a showcase at the end the week. Bring out your inner Mr. Bean.

Beginner - no experience is needed for these camps, have a little or a lot of improv experience you'll have a blast either way!

Comedy Styles July 6-10July 27-31August 4-7August 24-28

There are many different ways to laugh! Get an introduction to improvisation, stand-up, and character monologues. Campers will watch classic Second City Archive scenes and legendary stand-up acts (age appropriate material) before taking a shot at creating their own comedy piece. They will also have the opportunity to see The Second City Family Company’s newest revue.

Advanced - it's recommended that you've taken a few improv camps or classes with us before coming to these camps. It will help maximize your fun intake!

Adventureprov July 13-17August 10-14August 31-September 4

Every great novelist begins with a single idea. Learn how to build on that idea and create your own stories, through improv! Students learn about the structure of quests and storytelling through narrative improv games and scenes.

Advanced - it's recommended that you've taken a few improv camps or classes with us before coming to these camps. It will help maximize your fun intake!

Learn how to create the longform format "The Quest". Play a hero, a villain, a sidekick, a sage, or monster. What else could you discover during your journey? Play fun improv games, play as an ensemble and build a story on your feet!

Sketch: The Showcase July 20-24August 17-21

Create your very own sketch show! Watch and perform Second City Archive sketches (age appropriate material), then learn how to use improv as a writing tool and create your own show. Using improv as a writing tool is how our professional casts develop their revues. Learn the process of the pros! This is a great preparatory class for the Teen Conservatory.
