Musical Improv Conservatory

New for 2013!

We are introducing the Second City Musical Improv Conservatory Program! Developed in Chicago this six level program will introduce participants to the wonderful world of improvised musical theatre. Students will also learn songwriting and vocal performance skills as well as improv-to-script content development.

Level I: Basic music improv techniques through exploration of short-form games

Level II: Basic song structure and the scene-to-song equation

Level III: Exploring the fundamentals of medium and long-form musical improvisation

Level IV: Internalizing structure, genres, improv-to-script preparation

Level V: Continue to refine and build techniques from Level I - Level IV. Develop the skills necessary to create scripted material through improvisation. Focus is given to exploring improvisation and sketch for the final showcase (five 35-minute performances). Short-form improv, long(er)-form improv, scripted mini-musicals, musical sketch, and even scripted 35-minute musicals developed from improv are all possibilities for the showcase.

Level VI: Creating an original Musical Revue. Final performance on the Mainstage.

Tuition per Term: $280+HST; $260+HST Early Registered

Prerequisite: 100 hours of improv experience/training (Levels A-E or the equivalent) AND 20 hours of singing experience/training OR Musical Theatre Degree
