We have camps and summer intensives for grades 9-12!
Summer Camps explore the fundamentals of improvisation and sketch comedy through character creation, monologues and performance dynamics. Campers will play fun improv games to help access creativity, boost self-confidence and develop spontaneity and playfulness. We have a **NEW** selection of improv camps. So if you're new to the artform, or you’ve got some experience and you are ready to be challenged – The Second City welcomes you! At the end of each week, campers perform in a showcase for their friends and family!
Camps are taught by talented, and experienced Second City instructors/actors and alumni.
Our 1 week camps are Monday to Friday 9am-4pm (some holidays apply, camp tuition is prorated accordingly)
Tuition for 1 week camps - $410.00+HST
After Camp Care is available Monday-Thursday until 5pm. An additional charge of $10 per day per child will be incured. Please notify The Training Centre in advance if After Camp Care is required.
Sibling discounts are available if registered for the same session! Please register directly with the office for this discount.
Remember to hold onto all Summer Camp receipts. You may be eligible for a Children's Arts Tax Credit. We charge $10 to re-issue receipts at tax time. If you do not receive your receipt 24 hours after registration please contact The Training Centre Office — 416.340.7270.
Summer Camps 2013 Grades 9-12
July 2 – 5 Shortform Improv Technique REGISTER
- This camp focuses on scenic style improvisation and performance games. Campers will learn how to successfully get suggestions from the audience, develop their stage presence and how to perform competitive improv games. You've got the improv chops, now put it on stage! The week will end with a show for family and friends.
July 8 - 12 Comedy Styles I REGISTER
- Comedy comes in many different packages! Campers learn how to define their own voice and point of view through the exploration of Stand Up, comedy monologues and 2 hander routines (think Abbott and Costello). Campers will watch classic Second City Archive scenes, and legendary Stand Up acts (age appropriate material) before taking a shot at creating their own comedy piece. They will also have the opportunity to see The Second City newest Family Theatricals show and perform in their own showcase at the end of camp.
July 22 - 26 Improv Games REGISTER
- Campers will play fun improv games (like you've seen on Whose Line is it Anyway, Theatresports and The Canadian Improv Games) to help access creativity, boost self-confidence and develop spontaneity and playfulness. The campers will be showcased at the end of the week for family and friends! (No experience required).
July 29 – August 2 Comedy Styles II REGISTER
- Learn how to create large characters like on SCTV Saturday Night Live and Funny or Die! Campers will explore physicality in silent scenes and play around with different devices for character creation. Campers will have a showcase at the end the week. Bring out your inner Mr. Bean. (Please note, it is not necessary to have taken Comedy Styles I, however some previous improv experience is recommended for this camp.)
