Improv Technique I (Grades 5-12)

You don’t need any experience to take courses with The Second City, however you’re encouraged to bring along anything you’ve learned!

In our workshops students will learn improv terminology, scene basics (who/what/where), location work and emotions. Spontaneity, building listening/communication skills and teamwork techniques are also a strong focus of the workshop.

The Second City Training Centre Youth Programme follows a curriculum developed over the past 20 years, with references to Viola Spolin, Keith Johnstone, Charna Halpern, Del Close, Kim Howard Johnson, with input from our instructors. Our instructors bring their passion and love of improv to every class. They embrace the teen spirit and welcome each student's idiosyncrasies. Our staff is made up of highly qualified working actors who have previous teaching experience as well as Second City improv experience. Many of our students have acting or drama training and although Improv training is much different, they complement each other wonderfully.

Classes are grouped by age and Second City experience level.

There are 3 Terms within the year. Fall Term (14 weeks), Winter Term (14 weeks) and Spring Term (7 weeks). Students attend once a week for the duration of each term.

14 week term - $405 + HST
7 week term - $205 + HST
