The Second City Clinic

The Clinic runs every Monday from 6-8pm. Revive your improv! Each week is a different focus. Push your improv to the next level with more focused exercises and smaller groups, get more playtime outside your regular class, meet new improvisers.

Instructors vary from week to week. Each Clinic is capped at 12 students

First come first serve, no preregistration. $10 per clinic, buy 4 get one FREE!

Prerequisites: Level C, unless otherwise specified

***Clinics can also be used for a make up class for Level C, D and E students.***

Pre-registration Policy - to accommodate students coming from outside of the GTA, you can reserve a spot in the Drop In by calling the office the same day as the Drop In you would like to attend. Arrive NO LATER that 5:50pm in order to pay the $5 admittance fee and confirm your reservation. You must be here in person to confirm your reservation. If you are not here by 5:50pm your spot may be given away to people on the wait list. No one is permitted in the Drop In class after 6:05pm, even if space is available.


January 2 – Dr. Matt Folliott TWO’S A PARTY, THREE’S A CROWD
Focus on group scenes consisting of three or more players. With a focus on how to simplify group scenes by finding a game, learning to take care of yourself when everyone is out to be heard and the concept of (group mind) in order to build a strong group dynamic and have a successful ensemble that works together.

January 9 – Dr. Ashley Botting: STORYTELLING
Focus on simple story-telling. Fewer things are more important for good improv. We will explore story-telling on a micro level, as it relates to a character's arc, and also on a macro level as it relates to a series of scenes and an overall story arc.

January 16 – Dr. Rob Norman: THE EPIC IMPROVISATION
Are you ever confused how to add on to a scene? Ever wonder what comes next? Interested in turning a scene, into a sequence? Push a character's story forward by using archetypes to turn a single scene into a full-fledge quest. Allow classic storytelling structures to make your improvising easy.

February 13 - Dr. Ashley Botting: GIVE A SH*T
One of the most important things you can do as an improviser is give a shit. Explore playing characters who care about their circumstances and their scene partners, so we're not just standing around being witty. We will also discuss caring for and respecting your audience, and will work on showmanship through a series of exercises.

February 20 – FAMILY DAY

February 27 – Dr. Natasha Boomer: CORE VALUES
You have taken the classes enough to know what YOU value in improv. This Clinic will focus on playing your values in a long form structure to allow time for you to breathe and discover playing what you love.
