These courses help to build a foundation in improvisation, versing you in the Second City style, improv terminology, as well as fun exercises and games.
You don't need previous experience to take courses with the Second City. However, you're encouraged to bring along anything you've learned! Many of our students are in "the biz" and have had quite a bit of training in their field, and beginners are welcome, too. Although improv training is much different from traditional acting training, they complement each other wonderfully.
Similar in structure to the adult Improvisation Program, instructors use techniques from Viola Spolin's book Improvisation for the Theatre as well as other improv-related exercises for all skill levels. Our staff of instructors is made up of highly qualified working actors who have Second City experience.
The Youth/Teen Conservatory is designed to take several times. Each term is 7 weeks in length. Tuition is $235 for the seven weeks.

Classes are broken out by age into the following categories:
Kids Conservatory for ages 8-10
Junior Conservatory for ages 11-13
Teen Conservatory for ages 14-18
Students who complete the Conservatory program are eligible to audition for our performing troupes, Youth Troupe (for ages 8-12) or Teen Troupe (ages 13-18).
