Writing the Sitcom Spec TBA

After studying story structure and how to pitch ideas, students develop a spec script for an existing sitcom. Spec scripts are the industry standard writing samples for those wanting to work in sitcoms. Class time will be divided between workshopping pages and structural analysis of existing shows. Class time will also be spent working collaboratively to pitch storylines and develop an outline for an existing show. One class will be dedicated to the business of television.

Build on your story idea from Story for TV & Film to develop your own Pilot for an original 30-minute comedy series. Explore story structure, outlining, formatting and character development. Leave class with a first draft of your own series pilot. Please note: This class requires significant out of class writing. Come to the first class with series ideas and ready to write.
