Develop lyrics and either compose your own music or have a Second City music director do so for you. Designed for musicians and nonmusicians alike, this Comedic Songwriting class is a great way to build a portfolio and gain valuable experience.

$320/$290 early registration, 8 weeks, 3 hours

Prerequisites: Open to all students.

Comedic Songwriting TERM 4 2013

A Comedic Songwriting half-day Immersion with Head of the Music Program Jeffrey Bouthiette is being offered July 22-26 as part of our Specialty Immersion programs. Music Improv Specialty Immersions are also available.

Advanced Comedic Songwriting TBA
This workshop is not offered every term. If you would like to be informed when it becomes available, please click here.

Focus on improving existing material, creating new songs, and exploring technique. Musicians and lyricists will collaborate, revise and critique under the guidance of the instructor. Because a basic understanding of songwriting theory is assumed, students will work to put their knowledge into practice. This class provides a great opportunity for those with current theatrical songwriting projects to receive feedback and mentoring. Students leave the class with a portfolio of their work.

Class culminates with a staged reading of student songs performed by Training Center students and alumni.

Prerequisites: Students must be graduates of the Music Improv, Conservatory, or Writing program; completed Comedic Songwriting 1; or be given permission by the head of the Music Program.
