History of Comedy on Film

Online History of Comedy on Film January 9-February 27

This online version of our popular film appreciation class takes comedy lovers of all skill levels on a journey through the story of film comedy, from the era when Chaplin and Keaton were kings of the silent screen to Judd Apatow and Adam McKay's contemporary mastery of character and the bromance.

The class will focus on the role of comedy in cinema as a reflection of ourselves from its origins and specifically how The Second City has influenced this relationship in the second half of the 20th Century. Each week students will watch a film, and scenes from films, and be led in discussion by the instructor.

This class is a great start for students who are looking to learn more about filmmaking and in developing a comedic persona. You will leave class with a better understanding of how your characters and stories are influenced by and a part of the history of screen comedy.
