Humor Writing for the Internet

with David Wolinsky

You've got the chops and know you're funny, but now what? This class will examine some of the most popular written forms that dominate the Internet and will arm students with the know-how to get their pieces noticed, their rolodexes filled with the contacts they need, and the ability to navigate the business side of the wide world of contributing for a heap of different online outlets. Students will develop ideas for their own three-episode web series, make a podcast that people will care about, cultivate a social media persona and presence, write a short online humor piece, learn the difference between satirizing and just exploiting more sensitive current events, and learn what's involved with pitching pieces and, perhaps most importantly of all, getting paid for it all.
