Introductory Directing Courses

Study and practice the essential tools of directing for the stage! Students can choose to study directing techniques for improvisation, sketch comedy, or plays.

Intro to Directing Sketch Comedy TBA

Learn the process of creating scenes through improvisation, as well as running orders and ensemble management.

Prerequisite: Completion of any year-long Second City Training Center program

 

Intro to Directing Improv TBA

Learn how to create a freeing environment for the improvisational performer and group. Study how to coach and direct both short-form and simple long-form improvisation with an emphasis on creating strong scenic performance. Students in the class function as both performers and directors (no outside actors will be used), as to understand both sides of the directorial process.

Prerequisite: Completion of the Improvisation program

 

Intro to Directing Plays TBA

This class takes the student director on the journey from concept to performance. Examine the basic principles of directing a play including blocking, focus, casting, rehearsal techniques, designer interaction, script analysis and production concepts. Students will also actually direct monologues and scenes.

Prerequisite: At least one acting class
