The Judges of the SCTC Comedy Screenplay Contest consist of Harold Ramis Film School teachers, SCTC writing instructors, Production Company professionals, working directors, producers and screenwriters who truly have a passion for film and filmmaking. Because our judges are made up of several educators, we strive to give our contestants valuable and constructive feedback to those who request it. And, our judges look at all of the script elements and critique them from an educational and business perspective along with the following criteria:
Originality Is there something out there just like it? Or is this an original concept? Perhaps it’s an original take on something that’s already been done?
Formatting Is the script formatted correctly according to industry standards? For features, it’s 80-120 pages.
Structure Does it look like a movie script? Have you committed in the structure that you’ve created? Is it consistent?
Humor Is it funny?
Character Development Do the characters each have a distinct voice? Are they funny? Do they change in a significant way?
Pacing The timing of the action, unfolding of plot elements and character development. Is the dialogue engaging?
Style/Tone Overall quality of the writing.
Commercial Appeal Does it have audience and commercial appeal for the script’s particular niche?
