    Bob Martin: Special Guest for Student Focus Night - April 25

    Toronto Second City Alumni and Tony Awarding Winning Writer/Performer Bob Martin will be our special guest for Student Focus Night on April 25th. This up close and personal Q&A will give our students a chance to meet the writer of the hit Broadway Musical "The Drowsy Chaperone." Bob divides his time between New York and Toronto while he stars in the CBC hit television show "Michael, Tuesday and Thursdays".

    Martin Short TV special airs tonight on CBC

    Martin Short, the legendary Tony and Emmy Award-winning Second City alumnus, returns to his roots tonight in, I, Martin Short, Goes Home, a one-hour television special produced by Second City Television Productions.

    Featuring appearances by other Second City stars such as Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin and Fred Willard, the variety special receives its broadcast premiere all across Canada tonight, Tuesday April 3, on CBC television. (9 pm in Toronto, check local listings)

    New Revue Opens in Toronto

    The Second City's Toronto Theatre celebrated the official opening of it's Spring 2012 Mainstage Revue, Live Wrong and Prosper

    Alumni, media, Season Pack holders, and local media personalities were on hand to enjoy the debut performance.

    The new production is written and performed by Ashley Comeau, Jason DeRosse, Nigel Downer, Alastair Forbes, Inessa Frantowski and Carly Heffernan. And directed by Chris Earle, with music by Matt Reid.

    Chicago Director and Performer Coming to Toronto Training Centre!

    Actor, writer, director, instructor, Sandy Marshall will be teaching an intensive class focusing on ensembles and longform improv styles.

    This 5-hour workshop will focus on the value of building an ensemble, discovering and playing to strengths, and experimenting with environments and long form styles.

    It will begin with a practical round-table discussion on forming and building an independent ensemble, self-producing, developing practical marketing skills, and quickly translating stage content to all forms of digital media. The day will then transition to an intensive afternoon focusing on long form fundamentals, formats and acting -- and will culminate in a fully-improvised slow-burn comedic one-act play.

    Recent directing credits for The Second City include the National Touring Company, shows aboard the Norwegian Cruise Line, and shorts for The Second City Network. He directed the critically-acclaimed Playand HERO at iO Chicago and the Magnet Theatre in NYC. As an actor, Sandy recently appeared alongside Vince Vaughn in Ron Howard's The Dilemma, in John Pinette's Comedy Central special Still Hungry, and performs for Second City Communications. As a writer, Sandy is a founding member of Chicago's sketch ensemble Schadenfreude. With Schad, Sandy was nominated for a Chicago Emmy for the television pilot "IL-Informed." He also co-wrote and performed in 60 episodes of Schad's nationally-syndicated self-titled radio show, and has co-written two screenplays. With his writing partner Brian d'Arcy James, he co-created the television pilot Shiny People about the world of corporate entertainment.

    We're starting a new show! It's a chance for writers to pitch ideas and see them come to life on stage!

    Writers get to pitch premises, improvisers get to act them out.

    This show is happening bi-weekly, so if your in our Writing Program or Conservatory and trying to wrap your head around the concept of "what's in a premise" or if you are an improviser and want to act out some cool premises, check out our first show! (This will be happening bi-weekly in the JCB!)

    Getting Younger! We now offer classes and camps for Grades 2-4!


    A fun filled seventy five minute class designed to introduce your child in the basic improv games used at The Second City. This class helps build your child's creativity and get them accustomed to working and sharing in a group environment. Classes are generally offered in 12-week session that ends with a brief demonstration performance of some skills they've learned! Next session starts in May!

    Explore the fundamentals of improvisation. Build self-confidence, listening and communication skills and develop creative thinking, team building skills and empathy. Focuses this March Break include character and status, working as an ensemble and creating scenes from scratch. All campers will see The Second City Education Company's newest revue "So You Think You Can Dance, With Wolves," and have a performance of their own on the last day of camp in our John Candy Box Theatre. We encourage new students to improv and experienced students to our March Break Camps!
